Professional hygiene at the present time is a critical element of complex treatment of periodontal disease, as well as an integral component of therapy for all major dental diseases.

Dental hygiene  is a professional teeth cleaning by removing the plaque (above-and subgingival dental plaque) and smoothing the root surface, that prevents the formation of plaque in the future.

Periodontium is a complex of tissue that surrounds the tooth and provides its fixation in the jaw bone. This complex includes the gums, periodontal ligament that connects the root of the tooth with the bone hole, the bone tissue of alveolar process and cementum of the tooth root.

The earliest sign of periodontal disease is bleeding gums, more precisely –  gingivitis.

Gingivitis – gum disease is accompanied by swelling, redness and bleeding. Gingivitis is a fairly common disease; there are acute, chronic and relapsing forms of the disease.

It is proved that the long presence of infection in a periodontal pocket leads to the development of such diseases of the body as rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, endocarditis, gastritis, enterocolitis.

Today it is one of the most popular on the dental market: it has been used successfully in clinics in Europe and the U.S., and has just quickly gained popularity in Ukraine.

In the morning
• soda-salt rinse (¼ teaspoon of salt, baking soda to 1 cup of warm boiled water);
• brushing your teeth with toothpaste with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect;
• cleansing of the tongue from the soft plaque with a brush.

Changes in the body of patients suffering from periodontal disease, indicate a weakening of the natural protective mechanisms. Therefore, treatment should be aimed not only at eliminating the inflammatory process, but also at increasing immunity. Then the most justifiable is the usage of immunomodulators.

Drugs in this group stimulate protective forces of the oral mucosa, contribute to increase the levels of a particular enzyme - lysozyme in the saliva, are known for their bactericidal activity, stimulation and increase in the number of immune cells responsible for antibody production. For example, the immunocorrector is the drug Imudon.

The main indication for splinting is the presence of pathological tooth mobility. Splinting is desirable also to prevent re-inflammation in the periodontal tissues after treatment in the presence of chronic periodontitis.
 
The positive effects of splinting include the following:
• Constant splint is not for all patients. Take into account the clinical picture of the disease, state of oral hygiene, presence of dental plaque, bleeding gums, the severity  of periodontal pockets, the severity of tooth mobility, the nature of their displacement, etc.
